The hotel looked a little tired and univiting from the outside and the notice to check in at the SPAR was well out of date because Spar has gone and the check in is now at ASDA on the garage forecourt. However the lass on the check in was extremely helpful, polite and organised, even though we had to queue up with the shop customers to make our presence known!,, The mat at the front door has clearly seen better days and is a disgrace, however, once inside, the rooms themselves are spotless, roomy and very comfortable. The beds, pillows, duvet, prim and proper and well turned out. So spacious is the room that it even sports a two seater sofa as well as a chair. The bathroom is also spacious and well apointed with a bath for a nice soak with an overhead "rainfall" style shower head in the ceiling that positively drenches you in a healthy supply of hot water. No facilities in the hotel as such, but you get a discount at the forecourt Burger King as a guest and if that doesnt suit, there is a Greggs, Leon, Subway and Starbucks in a spacious service forecourt and plenty of spaced out seating. Conclusion: Dont judge a book by its cover. I'd stay again in a heartbeat, even if the TV did have its battery compartment cover missing, so the batteries fell out and as it was clearly streaming or satellite some channels pixelated badly.

Myself & my Partner use Raglan Lodge fairly often, as it's where we used to stay when we first met so it means alot to us when we return each time. The stays are like a box of chocolates, "You never know what you're going to get" From a very peaceful night after a boiling hot deep bath if your lucky enough to have a bath plug, to being locked out of your room, smoke alarms going off early hours in the morning & we even had the pleasure of another couple walking in on us as our room was double booked, Just aswel we aren't shy lol. Definitely a different experience every time we arrive & we can't wait to visit especially for the price per night.

I was slightly concerned staying here due to some very negative reviews. I stayed in room 10 and had a fine time, incredible value for money. Pick up the key card at the Asda which is 2mins away, you can't miss it, staff very helpful. Very clean room, clean linen, clean towels, clean bathroom, windows were clean and were being cleaned as I checked out. Ample parking, large TV and plenty of coffee and tea. There are some water buckets in the corridor which are unsightly for the few seconds you walk by them. I will stay here again and ignore the negative ninnies. I gave the property a 9/10 due to the price.

Booked the Raglan Lodge for a cheap one night stay while visiting Monmouth. We weren't expecting much because of the reviews, so we were pleasantly surprised with what a good stay we had. The rooms was a good size, clean, bed was comfortable and the bath was an added bonus after a day of walking. You have to check in at the shop at the Service station which is a bit odd, but the staff were friendly and it was handy having a service station so close for petrol, snacks etc

Don't believe some of the negative comments on this site. Location is very convenient, at junction of A449 and A40, next to the service station but far enough away to be quiet. Room was large, bathroom small, both clean, soap, shampoo, towels all excellent. Plenty of choice for food in a large space behind the store, now run by Asda - Burger King (50% off if staying), Greggs, Subway, Starbucks.
